You shouldn't remove it - without it, the Microsoft Download Center will not allow you to download various goodies.

However, the Windows Genuine Advange tool (WGA for short) periodically checks the legitimacy of your Windows installation and secretly reports various facts about your computer to Microsoft. There is no real need for it to do that - after all, once it has determined that your copy of Windows is legitimate, why keep checking? It isn't going to become suddenly illegitmate in the furute... So, you might want to *disable* this periodic check (without actually *removing* the WGA tool). Use the RemoveWGA tool from the first of the following two links.

If you still want to actually remove WGA, use the instructions on the Web page pointed by the second of the following two links.

The third link is a general information about WGA - in particular, it tells you what information about your computer the tool is sending to Microsoft.

Finally, the fourth link is to Microsoft's original instructions for removing the WGA.

im afraid you cannot remove the genuine advantage tool from microsoft, however if you restore your system to a date before it was installed it will be gone BUT when you go back online it will be reinstalled again (good old microcrap) unless you switch off your automatic updates but if you do that you will not recieve any security updates and you will not be able to download a lot of stuff from the microsoft web site as they want to validate your copy of windows before they let you download from them, eg you cant get the new windows media player 11 without the genuine advantage tool
