I hadn't used my Compaq desktop computer to get online for some time now because my laptop has been doing quite well, but my power source is dead on my laptop until I can get a replacement part in a couple of days. So I was configuring my desktop computer's settings to get online, and some weird message came on that made me think there was spyware on the computer. So I ran AdAware SE, and that and my Norton's Antivirus program dug up about four spyware files.

I never have any problems on my laptop, which runs Windows XP, and I also have automatic updates configured for Norton on my laptop and run AdAware at least every other day. But when the message popped up on my desktop computer, I was curious about whether or not Windows ME has a firewall built in like XP does. I looked in the Control Panel, but couldn't find anything. Does ME have a firewall built in, and if so, how can I make sure it's turned on?

Simple - No.

Windows XP was the first home version to have even a rudimentary firewall.
