Why do people feel the need to make their workplace their second home? I wish I felt at home at work. So?

many people bring in things from home and decorate their desks with all sorts. I'm sitting at someone's desk (I'm a temp) and I can see 4 pictures of cats, a 'special mum' ornament, photos of the entire family and other fluffy toys. I just can't bring myself to feel at home at work at all. My desk would be so boring and plain as anything. Does anyone else feel like this, or do you in fact like a little taste of home at work?

I like my job Poopsy...but I really wouldn't want to have all my personal stuff lying around for all to see...x

I know how you feel, I am also a temp, but with my own desk, but I do not feel it is right to fill your desk with tacky cr#p, this is work not home and this stuff should be left at home, maybe a photo off loved ones and a comedy mug but that should be it.

its a question of personal taste.
as u r a temp it would be difficult for u to be carrying things home every time u went to another place to work.
i have never carried pictures of my children as babies, as they were in some way engraved in my heart and soul, but now that i see less of them i do have a favourite picture of my two beautiful grown up children at my workplace, prominently displayed.
i would also like to get a pot plant or two for my deskplace to give it a more friendlier feel, but so far have not done so.
i also have a favuorite mug given to me by someone i no longer see but who i have valued in my life.
its a question of sentiment, but i think this may not be something a more materialistic or less soulful individual would appreciate.

i'm with you i just want to go to work do what i got to do and go home i dont care who likes me or not . i'm not there to make friends or hear everyones gossip about each other i just stay to my self . i think it makes them feel important
