To erase everything and start fresh, you'll want to reformat your hard drive. Best way to do that would be to take your Windows Installation CD, and if its bootable (if its Windows XP then it is), pop it in your CD ROM Drive and restart your computer. While your computer is booting up, a little prompt will appear that says "Press any key to boot from CD!" Hit any key, and it'll say something like "Setup is inspecting your computer." Let it do that for a while, and then it'll take you through a whole reformat process. It's not too complicated, but if you've never done it before it could be a little confusing. There are plenty of online tutorials that you can print out such as...

Good luck!

That's a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. If you haven't got anti-virus, try AVG or Avast, both free to download. And try Ad-Aware to remove spyware, also free.

Why not just clear the virus?
If you know the virus name, type it in the search bar on Yahoo and you should get removal instructions.
If you don't know the name, let your anti-virus software repair or quarantine it.
If you don't have anti-virus software ---- GET IT.

Second once you have found the name of the virus, go to something like http://vil.nai.com/vil/averttools.aspx
It'll probably be one of the Stingers that you need.
Third Format C:
Forth: Re-install XP.
(latter two are optional)
