Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini (listen (Persian pronunciation) (help·info)) (Persian: روح الله موسوی خمینی Arabic: روح الله الموسوي الخميني) (May 17, 1900[1] – June 3, 1989) was a Shi`i Muslim cleric and marja, and the political leader of the 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran which saw the overthrow of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran. Following the Revolution, Khomeini became Supreme Leader of Iran—the paramount figure in the political system of the new Islamic Republic—until his death.

Khomeini was considered a Marja al-taqlid to many Shi'a Muslims. Khomeini was also a highly-influential and innovative Islamic political theorist, most noted for his development of the theory of velayat-e faqih, the "guardianship of the jurisconsult". He was named Time's Man of the Year in 1979 and also one of TIME Magazine's 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

A man of revolution. A man of spirituality. Reflecting the two dimensions of humanity and faith..

A man of revolution ending 2000 years old family rule and empire..

A man of spirituality worshipping the wine of love [1]

Because if a leader lacks either of these two, as a Japanese proverb says; ''Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare''. Or with Imam's own words (rephrasing) ''Gnosis without action is heedlessness and action without gnosis is insanity.''

So, he was both a man of gnosis and action. But, like all the other true revolutinary men in the history (such as Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, Ali, Hossein..) were attacked, Imam Ruhullah (spirit of God) Khomeini (r.a.) has also been attacked. But, they won't succeed in silencing the truth, as God says, ''They want to extinguish the light of God with their mouths (propaganda) but God will perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it.'' (Quran, 61:8)

You can study the life of the Imam Khomeini (he is to me like Jesus reappeared) here:

[1] Referring to his mystical poetry book, ''the wine of love'' http://www.al-islam.org/wine-love-mystical-poetry-imam-khomeini though he has better works, such as ''Light Within Me'', ''Adabus-salat'', ''40 Hadith''.
