I've tried disabling the onboard modem to avoid conflicts, and I've installed the latest drivers for my USB modem, but I still get cut off several times a day and have to reset the machine to get back online.

If you are using a USB modem under the Broadband system be sure to update your USB drivers... not just the drivers for the modem itself.
I had this problem sometime ago and one way to try to eliminate it is to go to www.microsoft.com and take care of your updates for your computer.

Be sure to elect the hardware updates, not just XP or software updates. Anohter option is to go with a ethernet connection.

If you are unsure of how to do these things please feel free to drop me a line.

that is actually the problem of your broad bad fist check out with some of your freinds who use the same broadband connection whether they have the same problem. if yes ask your customer support to fix it. some times it happens if the router has some problemof transmission. forthat you need to ask your Service provider to change the router with a new one.
