Originally I could run it at a level that was above the pain barrier. Can any of you computer buffs out there help me?

On your computer there are 3 places to adjust the sound.

1. The media playing interface (Windows media player)
2. On your computer sound card.
(Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Multimedia)
3. Your speakers or monitor.

Make sure they are all adjusted correctly.

double click on your speaker icon on the task bar(near the clock) and make sure the one called wave is up full as well as volume, this controls sound from the media player

Open you volume control in the task bar and adjust it. If it's not in the task bar, go to control panel and open the sound and audio devices and click on the volume control. That should work

try clicking on the sound icon on your equipment tray and seeing if its on mute. or maybe though your attempting to play in media participant,in keeping with danger u dont have the main appropriate codec to play the audio or video report(in view that wmp helps proprietary homestead windows media formats),my suggestion is try open source media gamers lyk vlc,or media participant classic(they r open source, play virtually all kinds of audio and video formats, and wats extra u can play dvds and blu ray discs too!!)
