They are playing at the Cricket ground, which gives you a couple of options which are near the venue
The Golden Tulip at Old Trafford, Express by Holiday Inn on Salford Quays and the hotel at the cricket ground are both great options - they are all served by tram stops, have restaurants near by and are easy to drive to with parking available for residents.
City centre is only a few tram rides away or about £5 in a taxi - you will spend more than this paying for higher cost city centre accomodation or parking.
I would advise against the Britannia Sachas hotel - it doesnt have a good reputation locally if you know what I mean

I always stay in a brittiania hotel smack bang in the middle of the city. It's called Sachas and its lovely. It cost around £50-£65 for a double room and you get a three course self serve roast dinner in the resturant for only £5.00 which is absolutly fantastic. It's an easy walk to canel street and the printworks which is the main place for nightlife. on top of that it's nice if ya wanna do a bit of shopping cause you can just keep nipping back to your room with ya bags so ya don't have to carry them around. the only down side is that the hotel doesn't have it's own parking but there's a car park immediatly outside (its a bit dear) or a cheap multistory next to that (about £8.00 a day). Either way Manchester rocks!!!!!!!!

There's Malmaison, near Piccadilly Station, but it's quite expensive.
There are a few good Travel Lodges near the city centre, the nearest is on Princess Parkway in Hulme.
There's also The Portland Hotel, The Brittannia, and The Midland.
All are right in the city centre.

Moss Side is nice and has plenty of high quality squats to stay in - and instead of a pub you can check out the authentic Manc Crack Dens instead.

It would help if you set a budget...
There's a little hotel in the gay village, I can't remember what it's called... but it only costs £20 a night.
If you asked someone in the village, I'm sure they could tell you
