Sales is generally associated with working within the public realm of a store or for a corporation where you have customers generally come to you searching for what you are stocking within your inventory. You tell them about the product available and then if they are satisfied then they make a purchase. From a firms standpoint the bottom-line is all that matters, irrespective of each departments classification as a cost centre or profit centre.
