A Fossil, stainless steel chronograph.
Affordable yet looks expensive.
I've had mine for years.

I wrote a book about "THE COSTLIEST WATCH BRANDS" that are 1. Breguet 2. Patek Philippe 3. Vacheron Constantin 4. A. Lange & Sohne. Basic dress watches by these brands cost $9900 to $20,500 in 18 kt yellow gold with crocodile straps and more in platinum or other colors of gold. You cannot go wrong with these brands. If that is too costly, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Blancpain and Audemars Piguet make classy watches as well. Bottom-line luxury brands are Rolex, Omega and Longines. My cheapest dress watch is a Movado quartz model that cost $250 or so, if I recall correctly. If you want sports watches, rather than dress watches, the brands listed can equip you.

Well this is your lucky day I love watches, and if I could I would have a closet full of them. Turn to shop NBC they have a good selection of watches at a great affordable price. They are also great at offering advice on what it is in, and what is totally out. Remember watches to men are like shows to women. Be very careful to pay very close attention to what is "new" just as you would be shopping for shoes you would want what is in right? Any watch made by Invicta is a great watch they have a life time warranty, made in Switzerland (watch maker capital of the world), offer a great variety. If I were you I would go for a watch that is non-automatic, comes with its own winding box because non automatic is "in" right now most men are preffering the classic meets modern for watches. If your thinking gold or silver make sure you get two toned. Solid gold, and silver is not popular right now. Most men prefer two toned because it kinda tones it down a notch. Remember men are simple not complicated so anything solid stay away from. Shop NBC is also available online you should check them out!!! I think for the holidays they are offering free shipping on their accessories great incentive.

It all depends on how much you want to spend. Watches can get will over the million dollar mark, so you have a wide range! :) Some general suggestions:

Sporty: Ball, Tag, or Omega (from cheapest, up)
Dressy: Movado, Jaeger, or Rolex
Nice/Expensive: Roger Dubuis, A Lange & Sonne, Patek

If he's sporty get him a fairly cheap, plastic and water proof watch, if he's a metro man, get him a stylish big silver snazy watch... Hey and remeber, the bigger and blingier the better :)
