The communist movement is growing here in the naughties (00's) but in the 90's it took a big blow because of the common perception in the United States that the USSR embodied "communism", while the global communist movement had long condemned the USSR (and still does to this day).

In the naughties it is growing quite a bit, especially the Revolutionary Communist Party of the USA. The thing is, most communist parties do not participate in revolution as most communists do not view the current electoral system as effective for creating true change in any way, shape, or form.

They want to destroy capitalism, not participate in it, as they want to establish a different one. Thus, while some might say they get little votes in elections in the USA - that is of little consequence for a few reasons. First of all, every single party outside of the Republican-Democrat two-party system is inconsequential in terms of votes. Secondly, communists generally care little for elections results.

It's popularity is not what it was in previous eras nowadays, but it is definitely growing. The biggest hurdle is getting over the many misconceptions about it which so many members of the US public have.

Both Communism and Capitalism are two faces of same coin. Both interested in ends, but may differ on means. They beleive if the society is good individuals also feel happy. But where as Indian ethos stress on the qualities of individuals. If the people are good, whatever frame may be the state gives good results we feel. Though USA is a democratic society, they are giving support to several authoritarian regimes.

the question is not applicable since there was never really ever any threat of communism spreading. the whole 'domino' theory of how communism would spread, was created by war hawks who only see war as a good way to make the banksters who will then need to loan us our own money (at interest) richer. but to put your question into context - it helped our side because we were face to face with the soviets at the negotiating table and they blinked first...

Although there is a communist part in the United states I don't think they get enough votes to call any ones attention that its a serious party... The communist party of America was actually pretty large in 20's and 30's but today they just don't appeal to the American way of thinking ..
