Polls are notoriously unreliable and the data is often misinterpreted. The results can also be skewed by how the question is asked. Leading by opinion poll is not leading, it is instead a cop out designed to appease certain groups rather than make hard decisions and then accept the consequences of those choices. The country is lead by the majority. It occurs when people cast their ballots for representative leadership.

No, absolutely not. The government was designed to be protected against the "passions" of the people. This is why we have the electoral college and why politicians are only answerable to the people every 2-6 years.
There is a profound disconnect between the varying common perceptions and the knowledge in the halls of power. Culpability for this, I believe is equally shared by the politicians, the people and the press which bares the responsibility of informing us.
A feat they do admirably, it's just that it tends to center around the trials and tribulations of the pretty white girl of the week.

No. Many Americans are dumb, myself included at times. I bet many voters don't even know what an initiative is or who their state legislators are. Ppl don't even know the Bill of Rights or basic laws.

Most telephone polls are answered by the unemployed and shut-ins, mostly liberal in mentality. Hardly accurate!
