if your freezer can keep ice cream to a hard consistancy (you have to work to scoop it out), the freezer is cold enough to store breastmilk for up to 6 months.

to thaw frozen breastmilk simply put the bag or bottle right side up in a cup of warm water (do not use hot water or put it in the microwave or bottle warmer as this will kill all the nutrients in the milk)...wait until the milk is back to room temperature and the milk is ready for baby!!!!

sometimes the milk will separate the fat from the liquidy part of the milk...this is normal, simply shake the contents up!!!! if you fear that the breastmilk is no longer good, smell it....if it has a spoiled smell to it like cows milk, throw it out

Print out the chart at the link below and keep it on your freezer door.

fridge - about 7-8 days
freezer - about 3 - 6 mos
deep freeze - about 6 - 12 months

Always store away from the door so there is less thawing from the door being open and shut. Store in 2-4 oz quantities so there is less waste upon thawing. If you'll use it within a week, don't bother to freeze it since freezing and thawing does break down some components in the milk.

Its been a while, but it seems to me that two weeks in a regular freezer, and 6 months in a deep freeze.

i could be way off, you can probably call the hospital or Wic office lots of people who can tell you exactly what the shelf life is, and may also be able to answer any other questions you have.

your doing the best thing you can do for your baby... keep up the good work!

3 months. Thaw it under running warm water to the desired warmth . Once you thaw it, NEVER refreeze it! Either give it to your baby IMMEDIATELY or throw it away when being unused.
