In researching I was dismayed a bit to find that over 30, 000 manuscripts are submitted to publisher's per year (unsolicited I might add). We've seen the movies, starving artists and all their crazy antics to get their manuscripts on the desks of the most successful publisher's and agents. Though it's Hollywood, it rings some truths. Out of the 30, 000 manuscripts submitted, only 2, 000 get published. The majority of that 2, 000 are solicited by the publisher. Of course they go with the established writers that they know people are anticipating their next novel. Just to name a few, Stephen King, J.K. Rowlings, and now Dan Brown. Do you blame them? No, you go where you know the money is.
As far as getting published, if your write non-fiction, such as self help, you have a slightly greater advantage over the novelists as a new writer. Either way it is not impossible, but it is very challenging and requires some time and patience. According to Laurie E. Rozakis, Ph.D., author of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Creative Writing, "to publish with a publishing company, you need the three T's: talent, tenacity, and a tough skin."
In the meantime, here are some sources to try obtaining an agent:
~The Society of Authors' Representatives (P.O. Box 650, New York, NY 10113)
~Guide to Literary Agents & Art /Photo reps (Writer's Digest Books). This is an annual directory that provides specific information about agencies.
~Publishers Weekly. See which agents make the big deals, which ones represent the types of works you write, which ones are looking for clients, etc.
~Any Genre related magazines. Agents advertise often in genre-specific magazines. Check the magazines for the genre you write.
Happy Hunting!

First, if that question is an example of the way you write English, I'd get somebody to help you edit them before you even try and sell them. Next you either need a pblisher, and agent or the cash to self publish. For children's books you may want an illustrator too. In the UK there is a book called the Writer's and Artist's year book which is extremely helpful, available at all good book shops. That should give you all the information you need to get started.
Good luck.

"wrote" meaning published or just jotted down? If you've published it and don't know how to get it on shelves, apparently you should have thought more about the business side of writing. If its unpublished, first thing you should do is re-write, then I'd recommend getting a professional editor to comb through it, then depending on how successful you hope it to be, consider getting a literary agent and he/she'll find the right publisher. Try to get a directory of publishers and literary agents like "Writer's Market" book. Most of all be persistent, don't expect to make thousands of dollars or be famous.

If you have already tried sending it to several publishers and have not found any interest, you probably need an agent.
The web site below can give you some info on how to find an agent.

Find a publisher, work up some hype by getting a large children following. take it to local schools become one of those story tellers for free etc. try to sell the stuff privately then go for the publishers. You need to build up some credibility to entice people to invest in you
