Generally and literally speaking millipedes have hundred pairs of legs and centipedes have hundred legs. But the basic rule is that millipedes have two pairs of legs per body segment and centipedes have one pair of legs per body segment. If you go on counting the number of legs only you may come across a species where there may be as many as 800 legs!

centipede.
Despite their name, which stems from the Latin words 'centum' (meaning 'hundred') and 'ped' (meaning 'foot'), they normally have around half that number of legs, though it is possible to find centipedes with over 200 legs.

millipede.
The millipede's most obvious feature is its large number of legs. In fact its name is a compound word formed from the Latin roots milli ("thousand") and ped ("foot"). Despite their name, these creatures do not have a thousand legs, although the rare species Illacme plenipes have up to 750.However, common species have between 80 and 400 legs.
