My mom bought 5 plates 30 years ago. I can't get an answer from Franklin Mint either (probably because the plates are worthless), but I checked on e-bay and it looks like other than a couple of John Wayne plates, everything is being listed for $4 and $6, very cheap. Only saw 1 item with a bid. Too bad - thought maybe after all this time she would have at least doubled her money.

It's worth whatever you can get someone to pay for it. However, Franklin Mint is known for its poor quality and mass production of "collectible" items, so you probably won't be able to find anyone who's willing to pay for it. I like to go to thrift shops and browse. I also talk to the people who work in those stores...and they tell me that they don't even accept stuff from Franklin Mint, because nobody is willing to pay even a couple of dollars for those things. Basically, anything that's marketed as a "collectible" isn't worth anything on the open market.

Right now, eBay is probably the best place to discover what something is approximately worth. I say approximately because the impetous of eBay is to attract 'bargain' hunters so many things on its site are over or under valued. But browsing the site for an extended period of time (depending upon the number of similar items found, bought, and sold) will give you a rough estimate of what people are willing to pay for it. Even if you choose not to sell it on eBay, you can take that information with you when you price it elsewhere. What something is worth and what someone is willing to pay for it are, or can be, two different things.
