Female - Billie Holiday. She has a voice like honeyed gravel. Runner up is Madeleine Peyroux (you can definitely tell that she's heavily influenced by Holiday, only her voice is more like honeyed smoke). I could listen to either of these women sing forever.
Male - Stevie Wonder. Range, strength, emotion, style, creativity... He's got it all. Runner up is John Legend (obviously influenced by Stevie, and with just as much soul in his voice).

I like Katie Melua - her voice is like velvet.
But I also like Mariah Carey - even though she can technically hit all of the high notes and has alot of power, she can also be really tender and soulfully low. There's so much emotion in her voice and she puts everything into her songs.
