I'm also unsure whether or not I'm part French because a lot of vietnmaese say they're french/vietnamese, but they just look pure asian to me...AND no, my parents did not have an affair or anything.

Umm, I think thats kinda generalization. People think im part mexican just because my eyes arent that small and slanted, and i have dark skin. I'm 100% Vietnamese btw. And the whole Vietnamese/French thing, France did colonize Vietnam, but according to my mom, and most vietnamese i know, there arent that many mixes, I would say like less than 1% of Vietnamese have french blood in them. I hate to shoot down the though of you being french, because there is a possiblity, but if your parents say they dont have french or hispanic blood, theyre probally telling the truth, because you know asians always keep track of their family history

My husband is Greek, and sometimes people think he is Hispanic. I think that part of this mistaken identity stems from people and there daily interaction with the surrounding population. For instance; in a place like Santa Cruz CA, where I am from, there are a lot of people with a Hispanic background. So, people see someone like my husband who has slightly browned skin and almond shaped eyes and automatically assumes he is Hispanic. Could not be further from the truth. Most people are just ignorant and I don't mean that in a bad way, I guess it is not there fault; they need to travel more.

A lot of Vietnamese people say they are French-Vietnamese, did you say?

Why?

Is Viet Nam an ex-French colony or something?

I personally know a guy who is half-black (by his Bahamian mother) and half-white (by his Jewish & Irish-Romanian father) and some people believe he looks hispanic too!?!

How weird is that I wonder?

Is this misconception simply and loosely based on pure & utter ignorance?
