I would like to clean the carpeting in my car, but do not want to get it detailed. Is there a good foam cleaner that I can buy from the store?

Your best bet would be to purchase one of the small carpet cleaners. You could then use it for your house as well for small areas.
Here is the one we purchased... My son uses it all the time to clean his carpets in his truck - he works construction.
Bissell 1425B Little Green Proheat Turbo Carpet Cleaner
They run anywhere from 80-100.
If you cannot afford that - resolve works..

Certainly there are products on the market spouting "The Best"

A "foaming" cleaner will actually loosen some grime in its process, but equally important is a powerful enough wet/dry vac to suck up the "stuff"

Auto carpet, being different than home type, in some ways, isn't some that should be "soaked" as eventually damage will occur to the car flooring. Also highly agitated "scrubbing" might also serve to more permanently drive the "Stuff" into the carpet.

It depends on the amount and type of stains you have. Also How much work you personally want to put into it. Heres some advice take out your seats, ya it takes a little while to figure how to get them out, but once you do, vacuuming and cleaning are SO much easier.
