could be you are not feeding the correct food aqurian fish flakes are the best also try to give them some live food some times, also keep the light on for a regular time as they might be getting to much light. try using a different light this might help. have you thought that the fish might be breeding

There are many reason's that fish lose their common but the two most common are diet and water quality.

The first and easiest to correct is the water quality. You should have your water tested for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Take a cup or two of water from your tank and go to your local pet store and ask them to test it for you.

If any of those three are high then you'll need to make some changes to your maintenance schedule. Typically you want to do 10% water changes weekly on a tank to remove waste that will build up in the tank.

If your water is fine then look at diet. Coloration of fish relies greatly on good diet. You want a varied diet that targets a fishes particular food needs. By this I mean if the fish is primarily a vegetarian then you'll want a varied diet high in fiber and low in protein. The key though is a varied diet. Don't just give them the same flake day in and day out. Mix it up with some frozen brine, freeze dried tubifex, fresh vegies etc.

You can also by color enhancing flakes that are designed to give fish the nutrients they need for best colors.

Maybe your quality isn't as good as it could be, Take a sample of your tank water & have it tested...most shops that sell fish, aquariums can do this for you or you can buy a simple kit.

It could be the food your feeding them...it might not suit the type of fish your keeping or it could be lack of oxygen going into the water...try an air brick.

Check your lighting & be sure you have a correct' fish' light. They only get the spectrums of light they need from one of those.

Failing that, change your filter system.

What type of fish? My goldfish and Koi's change colors because they get too much light and They are not fed the best food for color. Change in light and food alter the fish color. They need alot of certain vitamins like A to produce certain pigments. In crease light takes away certain pigments.

Most likely due to poor diet, or nitrate build up. Consider switching to feeding both freeze dried blood worms, and algae flakes. (assuming the fish are omnivores.) Check your nitrate levels.
