Seeking guidance from the wiser, older employees on yahoo groups...PLEASE GIVE ME WISDOM!!!

...so a fellow college buddy and me just graduated from college and both landed the same jobs on the same project.
On one hand, I feel this "friend" of mine always works against me. I don't feel he respects me. He always says the opposite of my analysis, and never stands by one argument.

More importantly, I feel he's always trying to "takeover"
--"stealing" my contacts
--wanting to always keep him "in the loop"
--always asking other people about my powerpoint but never the one who made them -- me.

Is this kind of character common in the workplace? Someone who is "leaching" off your work and never giving back?

...or, in the spirit of CHristmas, am I supposed to forgive, forget, and work with him?

Watch your back. He is competing with you for advancement and sees you as a threat.

friendship is one thing, business is another. You work together now and your friendship comes second. He is definitely competing against you. Do what you're required to do to help him and no more. You can still be polite but document your ideas and keep a record of your accomplishments. But don't feel you have to try and get 'attention'. Your work speaks for itself and you will advance based on merit. This is something that he hasn't realized yet. If you really feel disrespected by this guy, I would advise going in a conference room with your manager and sharing how you feel.

on the tip of the day, that's his lifestyle selection and that's no longer as much as you to purpose and alter it. How could you sense if he did reminiscent of you? confident, you have intruded somewhat severely and have in all probability grossly indignant him. i could apologise and tell him which you will no longer try this back. that's comparable to bullying.

this is exactly what people do to get on top. he sees you as a competitor. he's doing what he has to do to get that promotion. he seems a bit more aggressive in this pursuit. If this were my situation, I would honestly try to overshadow him so I can get a promotion. I'd love to give him a taste of his own medicine.

Nope, I would draw the line in the sand and tell him to quit mooching off your good nature. Every man for himself.
