Most of the answers that come in lead to the end of the world. I want to know if there is a chance that internet will be totally gone but not yet the end of the world.

I don't think you can really compare a massive network of computers to a centralized location of books (Library of Alexandria).... a large fire can end the legacy of such a building, while the ending of the internet would take a global-wide effort or event.

The internet is a communications medium, just like the network of telephone lines spanning the globe- a scenario where the internet is gone is about as probable as a reality without telephones. (and actually, with many telephone services moving to VOIP service, the internet may eventually encompass PC-based and telephone-based communication entirely)

So, to answer your question: Short of some huge catastrophe, no the internet is not likely to be going anywhere. But then again, if every nation is somehow turned into primitive or third-world status, most of us would be too starved or near-death to be concerned about checking our email anyways.

Sure! Maybe when the big comet hits, the sun goes sour and turns into a red giant and engulfs the Earth, etc.....
