No. Do you remember your great, great, great grandparents? If we get to be immortal, it would be nice if we got to hang around to enjoy it. There is no shortage of people and genes in the world. I am not saying, don't have children, but I think the idea of immortality is an illusion.
Now, someone like Mother Theresa who has been mother to thousands...she will be immortal. It seems to make more sense to make our mark by how we help others to even come close to any semblance of immortal.

In a way there is a lot of truth in this concept. If you have photographs of older and past family members, you may be quite surprised just how much you resemble them.
I've seen on TV the descendants of Lord Nelson and they all look very much like him, the blond hair, the nose and the eyes etc. They obviously too have traces of other family members but these features remain strong within the family.
We are all of us, very much like our ancestors, both in appearance and attitudes, temperament etc.

That's the wrong reason to have children. You shouldn't bring a child into this world because you believe it's your "mission" to "become immortal." You should have a child because you love your partner and want to give the same love to the child you have together.
We all die, nothing can change that. Part of us lives on through our children, but that would be an odd reason to go through nine months of pregnancy, labour and then the financial and emotional strain of raising them.

Not actually immortal obviously.
And mother nature has programmed us to seek reproduction as we run away from death.
But they do bring back bits of us from our own childhood, and that can be nice. Also as they only have us to learn from they can end up picking up our problems. Which is living on in a way.

Yes absolutely. This is exactly what made me decide to have babies - and I'm 4.5 weeks pregnant now with my first.
It's the only re-incarnation theory that actually holds any truth.
Unfortunately for men, women hold the vital mitochondria that is passed down. So technically speaking, women have the real chance at 'immortality' and men can only hand down some DNA.
I know this isn't intended to highlight male vs female. But it's true.

Yeah, you do, in a manner of speaking.
1) you live on in your loved one's memories
2) you pass on your culture, values, even your possessions,
things that somehow are a part of you
3) if you raise your children well, you live on in the goodness and
love they spread in the world, their achievements
So, having kids is nice, if even for such "selfish" reasons and not for the kids themselves. Haha.

No I don't believe that we become immortal by having children.....we just become parents.
We become immortal by having a soul.
Just one man's opinion, though.
