I am not a Christian nor an Atheist, I follow my native traditional way of spirituality. Madison ave. has made the holiday one of gift giving and recieving. I am just returning from delievering toys, food , clothing, and other esential gits to Pine Ridge. Giving is a good thing. Yet Christmas isnt about Jesus anymore, if it ever was, he was born in the Spring not the beginning of winter. The date was chosen to circumvent a Roman festable of lights and the celebration of the winters solstice

Actually Christmas is an amalgamation of a few Pagan holidays. It was originally the celebration of Yule and the winter Solstice and the Roman holiday of Sol Invictus to celebrate the birth of the Immortal Sun The holiday was adapted into Christianity.

As an Atheist I celebrate being with my friends and family.

People have been haveing festivals around winter time long before Christiaity came along and when it did these pagan beleifs and Christean belielfs fused toghether the Christmas tree for example has got nothing to do with Christianity its pagan.

But in todays world Christmas day is far more about buying presents then it is about Jesus.

We get a holiday off and if your lucky enough to have a family and friends to spend it with you might as well enjoy it no matter what your beleifs.

Society has made Christmas about so much more than the actual birth of Christ. I'm sure many Atheists do celebrate Christmas just because it doesn't have a lot of religion behind it anymore.

I celebrate Christmas, not Jesus. Unlike Jesus, I know Christmas exists. It’s right there on the calendar and there is a brightly lit 10-foot tree in my dining room. Plus, I get the day off. That’s reason enough to celebrate. To an atheist, the Christian component of Christmas is nothing more than part of the mythology of our modern culture.

I'm not an Atheist but my in laws are...as well as many people I know...yes they celebrated Christmas as a tradition.... I can see the hypocrisy in this but I can also see it in people who have church wedding's or,have their children baptized but never go to church..As well as people who use Christ for political Gains which sorry to say seems to be some in America!!

Haha love your name...

To answer your question - people don't need to have a connection with 'Christ' in order to celebrate Christmas.

It's originally a pagan celebration, and was re-formed to suit the church after they slaughtered all of the druids and pagans.

Makes me laugh when people rant and rave about how the nativity scene holds such importance at all at this time of year. People feel protective of it as though it means something.

Ah well - we all have our delusions!

Yes they do celebrate Christmas being it has no connection to Christianity and if Christians say it does then why do they not spend the day at church?
