Depends on different aspects...for example with today's illnesses there is the possibility of successful treatment where as before it was most likely you'd die. We do have a lot more diseases but we also have a lot more people researching and hopefully finding both funding and cures.
We have more opportunities and can be more independent these days.
We are faster, quicker and smarter in a lot of ways but we're also in some ways more miserable, we want more, are ruder in general, are less tolerant and less friendly. Society has developed some very selfish attitudes and we have lost a sense of community, so as I said it depends on which perspective you want to consider your question from.

You are referring to technology, right? Overall, it is more advantageous, but barely, IMO. We get all the benefits of modern medicine and technology, but there are some negative results too. People can get sucked away from their real lives into make-believe ones. People can use technology to escape their immediate surroundings. People can blank out other people around them using ipods, cellphones, and other portable devices. We can pick and choose what we want to be exposed to, and this can distort reality.

Both. When our ancestors shifted from stone to metal for the fabrication of their tools, life became very complex.

They didn't have a written language, or printed books, or FAQs to help them learn the new technology. They just did it.

As we must. Without forgetting the old ways, of course. There's safety in knowledge.
