They do not masturbate necessarily. Lots of them have sexual relationships with fellow priests and monks or nuns. Some priests more specifically, prefer young boys although they are not permitted to. Further, priests are permitted to be married. Needless to mention that besides all the above they also do masturbate, if it is God's will.

No, the prohibition against sex and marriage has nothing to do with serving God. Jewish Rabbis and clergy in most other Christian faiths are allowed and usually do get married.

The poster was correct about the Catholic Church outlawing marriage for nuns and priests so that the Church would inherit their property when they died. There is little reason to continue this practice however since the Church no longer inherits unless this is the explicit wish of the nun or priest. It is possible that a family could conflict with a vow of poverty but this is probably not the main reason. Again, almost all other Christian faiths and Jewish Rabbis seem to be able to manage family and service to the church; the Catholic Church should modernize and allow marriage as well.

That is actually a good question.Everyone assumes that priests are not sexual people since they took a vow of abstinence. But the fact of the matter is they are still human and humans masturbate whether they admit to it or not.Very few people are capable of not doing something sexual for the rest of their lives without being a eunuch and so we can deduce that priests do indeed, at the very least, masturbate.

Historically, priests married and owned land.No where did Jesus say anything about priests having to be celibate in order to serve him or teach others and only mentioned that one could be celibate and be glorified. This is entirely a Catholic creation that was done so to prevent priests from gaining wealth and leaving it to their children rather then the church. The church will never change that position because not only does it still serve the church in that regard but it also has become a tradition that to many people have become accustomed to.

Thats just silly, a Priest and a Nun getting married. Hey wait a minute, if they had kids they'd already be Father and Mother, right?

Because marriage is not just about sexual pleasure. There's relationships, putting a high priority on your spouse, and your kids. They usually say family comes first before ministry, now if they get married, the time they spend for religious activities will be shortened.

Surely.

The church has made rules against marriage for nuns and priests. I think it's because celibacy is favored for clergy in the New Testament. I don't think it was Jesus who taught it, though.
