My one year old betta is sick! He has had fin rot for approx. 1 month which we have been treating. Then, 3 days ago we lost our power and his tank got very cold. At this point the fish went into a semi comatose state. He didn't really move at all. After 24 hours of no power I noticed that his belly had bloated up. Once our power came back on and his tank warmed back up he started moving around again. Now he is back to his normal activity level. However, his tail fin is still rotting, his belly is still buldging, some of the scales on his belly are discolored and he has two very small bumps on the underside of his belly. I have tried fasting him and giving him peas for the possible constipation (tummy bloating) and am giving him Aquari-sol but I'm not really sure what is wrong with him. Any ideas or help would be appreciaited. Thanks.

Most likely this is a bacteria infection that s leading to dropsy. A broad spectrum antibiotic might save, but it's likely too late. If you've got money to spare the local fish store should stock trisulfa. If not find something that claims to treat gram negative, and positive bacteria.

Go to the fish store and get a better medicine for tail rot. If it hasn't cleared in a month, you are not using the correct medication. He also may have some parasites in the swelling. Clean the tank to make sure he doesn't have any unwanted guests. Bettas need to eat so don't withhold food. Make sure you are not overfeeding. You can feed him 2-3 times a day, but make sure there isn't any left overs in the bottom of the tank. I've never heard of feeding a Betta peas. Feed Betta food only. Talk to the fish store owner and ask them what meds they have to treat him. Good luck!

Feeding pieces of pea is good and is recommended on many Betta websites - but I don't think that's all that your fish needs. I'd try switching medicines asap and go talk to the guys at your local shop.....

he continues to be slightly ill style the fungus. shop doing partial water substitute and including slightly aquarium salt. and don't over feed. The uneaten nutrition will pollute the water. Feed him stuff that betta loves like bloodworms(dry or frozen).. Mine have bee spitting out flakes and pellets... they are choosy. try this some weeks and he must be back.
