if you live in a country that is surrounded by many muslim countries (like israel), you'll have to strive to be independent & strong (but we are luckier, we don't resort to violence).
singapore is a small country, & our only resource is singaporeans.
we don't believe in waiting for others to give us water or food...we work for it. we are resilient & flexible in moving with times.
i never thought myself as being 'better' than anyone else, be they be malaysians , indonesians or filipinos, etc. we all learn from each other.
i'm just glad that being born in singapore, i can have an education, with a relatively safe environment to live in. i can have freedom of choices in what i endeavor to do.
are we a better people in character & virtue? that will depend on individuals, as with many countries. however, we have always live in harmony among the muslims, christians, buddhists, taoists, jews, bahai, and many others.
we have always been tolerant in others' beliefs, because we know that violence can't solve problem. it will only get worse. after a day's work, we only want to savour the joys of our family.

the government of Singapore has done their best to secure that tittle and still doing their best.as for the people they are no different than any other citizen in any other country but by far more selfish and money-minded.criminals cant make a living in Singapore cos in every corner there is a police post or center and the Singaporean citizen are more aware of their consumer rights than any other country in south east Asia

I'm from Singapore and i feel that we're better than most asian countries in terms of the government and the people. Our standard of living is pretty high too. We're not as rude and loud mouthed as the ones from China and India. Our country's clean with no filty toilets anywhere in sight. Singapore's got the best shopping centres plus it's safe. My parents can expect me to go down to 7-11 to grab a bite at 3 am and return home safely.

The main reason that most Singaporeans feel that that they are better off than their neighbours is that we are finianically stronger than our neighbours, we have more safer homes, and we are well developed in terms of infrastructure. As compare to people and character and virture, I don't believe that we are better off than our neighbours.

They're the wealthiest and enjoy the highest standard of living (and taxes) but from what I could see, they were also the most shallowly materialistic (and biggest tourist trap of the three nations and Thailand).
