My race is referred to most commonly as "white", so since I have absolutely no problem being called white why should I or any other white person be mindful of black people who don't want to be called black just because they are oversensitive?

Papabear, I never will "get it", because I have absolutely no control over what happened over 100 years ago, and I certainly don't support it. My point is that a name is just a name and it only hurts as much as you let it, and there are plenty of folks out there who use positive names for people to try to veil their hatred, etc., so as such I think there is too much emphasis on what people call each other instead of the motive.

If you think your race is most commonly referred to as white, then you need to come forward into this millennium. Caucasian is the correct term. Are you really white, or are you "natural beige" or are you "slightly tanned"? White and black can be construed as racist terms, depending upon usage. Do you refer to the American Indian as a redskin? Color should not be the issue.

You can refer to yourself as you like, but if you want to be respectful of others, learn the lingo. Or not.

Are they oversensitive for wanting to be called what they want vs. what someone else dictates they should be comfortable being called?

Besides which; the dictionary and language connotations of white vs black are depressingly demeaning. Look them up.

By the way; I say "they" because I'm a brown-skinned immigrant with tightly curled hair because of my African heritage.

I requested that question a while in the past on right here. The principal rationale is that if they maintain calling themselves african Americans they get exact govt medication. The label is not sensible to me they have got not ever even been to Africa. They say "they" got here from Africa while "they" did not they got here from a coupling proper right here within the USA. The similar to inflicting issues considering its simpler than being a efficient member of society. Click the hyperlink under and notice one of the crucial solutions I acquired while I requested that equal query.

It doesn't really matter what you may choose to call yourself, it is a matter of respect to refer to other people with the terms they use. Black is still in common usage, and was the term coined by a white majority and African -American is the term made by the people themselves.

Actually I don't know of any black people (including Myself) who like to be refereed to as African-American. I am not from Africa... And actually my great, great grand farther was a white slave owner.. who impregnated my great, great grandmother, so I guess no one really knows what their true race is including you? I am a woman who is a child of God that just so happens to have dark skin and proud of it. And I happen to be sensitive to allot of things like poverty, starvation, homelessness, AIDS, and environmental issues, how about you?

I agree as I too don't understand why 'coloured people' as we have to call them are so sensitive. I am white-OH MY GOSH!!! Did I just call myself white??? Yes I did and I don't care and neither do you or any other white people. So why do 'coloured' people not like being called black? Oh gosh I hope I didn't offend anyone!!!!! lol but seriously why is it such a crime? Obviously my question is SLIGHTLY different than yours. (Yours is African-American, mine is black). Obviously you are from America. I am from the UK and i'm pretty sure that over here the law is that you have to refer to a black person as coloured. What is the world coming to.

I agree. The only way to end this nonsense is to remove all racially specific questions on everything. I now leave them blank. When everyone refuses to answer they may get the idea that color has nothing to do with character.
