The man Santa Claus was based on a man in the old world did give gifts to his fellow villagers. Also other countries have their own variation. As to rather people still believe, I would have to say yes.Believing is the one thing that keeps most of holding on.Besides when you see the look of wonder in the faces of very young children in a store waiting to sit in Sants's lap , that's all the belief anyone should need.Sometimes even the parents. Arion.

After so many questions about Santa I actually felt the need to make a research. This is what I have found;
Santa Claus was born 245 A.D. in Antalya/ Turkey. He was the child of a rich family. He was very well educated and became a priest. He devoted his life to children and sailors. He was known as a savior of sailors. He used all his heritage for helping people. But he made sure that no one knows about. He used to put little gifts and gold pieces in a sack and go nights to distribute them. One night a watchman saw him and then everyone in the area knew it was him who was taking care of poor people. He died on December 6, 343 A.D.
His grave is in Antalya/ Demre. 1087 Italians stole a part and brought it to Bari and made a basilica.

When I was 9 I couldn't sleep on Christmas Eve so I wandered downstairs to see my dad putting something together.... my mom saw me and quickly made me go back to sleep OR "Santa's not coming" soooooo morning comes, I see the big item my dad had put together... it was for me, from Santa!! *sighs* So my parents told me and my sister the truth. Santa Presents are always from the parents.

Santa Claus seems to have been created by both the wisemen bringing Jesus gifts, and by merchants hoping to get more money. Santa Claus is kind of a misnomer because he takes away the true meaning of Christmas, which is Jesus' birth. I do not believe in Santa, because his job is physically imposible.

Faith...this is the key to all things worth living for and worth believing in. If you have faith he is real, then he will be. If you have faith he is not real and just a story, then he is just a story. We make things and ideas real by believing in them, and only from that cheery mood can we fill the void that we live in each and every day.
