Most likely she will deliver a healthy baby, but her chances of premature delivery are increased. She should be sure to stay healthy and get good medical care during her pregnancy.

If you or someone you know is pregnant, you should know that your baby's heart started beating just three weeks after conception. By six weeks, your baby has tiny fingers and recordable brain waves. By eight weeks, she is fully formed, with all his or her organs. She can even suck her thumb! For more information on abortion, prenatal development, and free help available for pregnant women, see:

If the abortion was preformed by a well trained and experienced doctor without any complications, there is no reason to believe that her pregnancy or ability to concieve would be any different than that of a woman who did not have an abortion. This is a medical fact.

Very rarely do complications arise during abortion that would cause an increased chance of miscarriage, fertility problems or scar tissue. It's more likely that giving birth would cause you fertility problems with your second child than abortion would. This too is medical fact.

Scaring women away from abortion is something that pro-lifers/anti-choicers love to do. Promoting ignorance and hate is sad for all of those involved.

So again, if the abortion went through with no complications, then her chances of delivering a healthy baby are the same as always.

Having previous abortions heightens the risk of miscarriage...however, if the woman does get pregnant and does not miscarry, she can have a healthy baby just like a woman who has not had an abortion. I don't know of any reason why an abortion would cause the feotus complications beyond the higher miscarriage risk: this is the only thing I've heard of. As far as baby having a physical or mental disability, there should be no higher risk than with anyone else.

PiePiePie, I think you are wrong there...it is a medical fact that previous abortion heightens the risk of miscarriage by 60%. Don't believe me? Here is an article about a study in London that looks at what makes a higher risk of miscarrying and among them are being underweight which means you have a BMI of less than 18.5% (you will be 72% more likely to miscarry), having IVF (40%), and having had abortions (60% higher). Also contributing to a higher risk of miscarriage is being single. Also listed are things which decreased the miscarriage risk and among those are taking prenatal vits and folic acid as well as eating fresh fruit and veggies all half the risk of miscarrying. Also lowering the risk factor is having a planned pregnancy and eating chocolate every day!

So there it is for you, in black and white.

Yes she should be able to have a healthy baby. She would want to tell her OB/GYN about the procedure if he was not the doctor who performed it. All pregnancies can have complications, but you want to tell your doctor and make sure they test to see if your cervix is competent as that is really the only big risk at this point. Sometimes abortions can cause a cervix to be incompetent, if this is the case they can sew it closed so that you don't lose the baby. This can even happen in a pregnancy that doesn't have a history of abortion.

Q | Will I be able to get pregnant after my abortion?
A | There is no evidence of fertility or childbearing problems after on abortion. Having an abortion does not interfere with your ability to have children in the future

I would say not. Just think of people that have said that they had abortions then went on to have kids and you know that they are healthy.

I believe abortion can only cause problems with conception. Any pregnancy can bring with it risks & complications...but a previous abortion will not do any harm to the new baby.

It depends on the method of abortion. Some methods may cause complications, whereas others may not. Generally, there shouldn't be any complications as there's very little reason for there to be - so don't worry about it.

you should have a healthy baby no matter what happens it is all up to God in the end. A lot of women get several abortions in their life (sad I know) but still manage to have healthy kids when they are ready.

There is no reason that she should have a problem pregnancy. Abortions can cause problems with conception due to scar tissue. If she has been able to conceive, there is no reason her current pregnancy would be affected by the abortion.
