I have had the same thought in the past. I am thinking there would be a lot of people including myself in trouble. We take electricity so much for granted huh? First we would not be able to store food unless we got an icebox and we would have to dig a root cellar.. We would not be able to go to the store to buy it if they could not store it safely or if the food manufacturers had to close down their plants. Trucks could not run without a battery. Therefore we would have to grow a lot of our own food. ( Good luck with your plows everyone) We would not be on here typing, or watching TV, or listening to radio. We would not be reading at nighttime unless we had a bunch of candles or lanterns. We would have problems driving at nighttime with no lights and in the day there would be no signal lights. (No, we would not! No battery in the car huh?) The banks would probably have security guards in profusion due to no security cameras working. Most people would be late for work due to alarms not going off. Most tests MRI, etc would not be in use and surgeries would be primitive.Water would in demand due to no pumps to run it. Water treatment plants would not be able to run.The list is endless of the problems we would all face.

A very good question!!! I think that the idea of having no electricity is would be good. I would miss all of the modern cons of course, but the idea of working to survive makes me feel better than working to get somebody else rich!!!! I think that the beginning of a no electricity world it would be a dangerous reality and it would pretty much be kill or be killed. There is a lot of vicious people in the world and they would not cope with the change. I would be afraid that the criminals in the world would band together making a society based on conquering. Kind of like braveheart etc... The good thing about the change would be that we as human beings would have more time to focus on ourselves and our families and our spiritual paths. At this point in the society that we know today, I don't think that there is enough time to get in touch with ourselves and our loved ones. Te human race should still be able to generate small amounts of electricity through harnessing the power of water, but all in all, I would be able to survive and I would embrace the change!

Great question. And perhaps its not "if", but "when"! I'm already planning for a shake-up, not quiet sure of what form it'll take, but I predict the loss of electricity. One thing Ive decided, its essential to generate your own electricity, time to gear up for it. Make sure your essential appliances are well thought out. Equally, have non-powered alternatives as backups wherever possible. Communications equipment is another question altogether.
I also have a seed bank, 2 yrs rice for 20 ppl, manual tools, an extensive DIY/Med/etc library, a very capable first aid kit. In New Zealand now I'm building the infrastructure for a 100 person strong community completely off-grid, self sustainable, medically capable and defendable, should the need arise. It can be operated as an eco-hotel in the current environment. Scheduled for completion 12/2007

Actually, I am among many people who are looking forward to living in a much simpler society than what is currently found in developed nations today, but also a peaceful society, willing to follow the Creator's lead. IF that means living with only the sun & moon as our 'lanterns', and fire for cooking & heating, so be it! (:

Been watching James Burke have we? It isn't that difficult to generate electricity when you know how. I would have to go a-magnet hunting first. Then I would have to get hold of some soft metal for wires, and tools for cutting trees so that I could build a generator. And then there is making the devices to give me light and heat. I would work it out I think. Or just light a fire. And maybe I would just sit down and work out how to harness this gravity stuff instead. Who knows, that might turn out to be something even better.

Of course we will all survive. There wasn't any electricity long long ago, and they survived, so why can't we? I'm sure people will invent loads of other things to kill time and have fun. Human will adapt. And without electricity? That wouldn't last long. Humans would probably invent new ways to get the light on again.
