The long term effects are rather easy to predict, but the transition process from the current state to a future without ME oil state is harder to predict. Assuming that the alternate energy sources are phased in over a period of 5-10 years, I think that the likely effects are:
1. At least initially, rising demand from China and SE Asia would tend to offset declining demand from the West. The US trade deficit from oil would shift to a trade deficit for manufactured goods. In effect, the US would continue to finance ME oil exports indirectly. The price of oil would stabilize but revenues to the ME would slowly decline as reserves are exhausted.
2. ME governments will continue to face increasing pressue caused by population growth. At least initially, they will deal with domestic pressures by liquidating foreign investments. This will put pressure on the price of US stocks and real estate sold to pay for past oil imports. The 'wealth' of Americans as measured by spending power will decline until foreign investments are redeemed. The reduction in spending power will reduce demand for manufactured goods and will translate into reduced demand for oil from China.
3. As the economic power of ME countries declines (on a per capita basis), they will sink into a period of revolutions and civil war. The infrastructure for medical care will crumble leading to higher death rates. As usual, the West will be blamed for the problems and attacks on the West will escalate in frequency and violence. This is the wounded but still dangerous phase.
4. The ME will face a population collapse from famine because the ME will lack the land to grow food enough food and the financial ability to import enough food. The survivors will be the rural population that controls the food production. The urban population will attempt to migrate. The level of violence will decline as the region reverts to an agrarian society.

The Middle East would fall into turmoil, but the US wouldn't care because we no longer have any interest in the area of the world, and ultimately Israel may be taken over because our interests are not in the part of the region. However, even if we never need oil from the Middle East again we will still be involved because the US has invested so much time and money in that region to making it more democratic but really just for the oil that we couldn't simply pull ourselves out. Even though everyone knows that we're involved in the Middle East because of their oil our government still like to put on a false front and try to persuade us otherwise which is precisely what they would do if we didn't need their oil anymore...to reinforce that false front.

The people of oil producing countries will start taking stock of their governments'policies during the years of afluence...and...
I leave the rest to your imagination...
However,I wish to point out that from the first vestiges of civilization Middle East is the region where the destiny of civilizations has been decided, and it is the most strategically vital place on earth(the place where the three ancient historically and geographically important continents meet) and as such it will always be in the direct interests
of the ruling powers...

the international would be making use of oil till each and all of the oil we are in a position to get at is long gone. Oil is used for allot extra effective than working your automobile. in simple terms approximately all plastics are created from oil. So is Nylon, foam, asphalt, propane, engine oil, some carpets, vinyl, and multiple different issues. in the event that they are clever, the middle east international places will make investments their wealth in companies that would pay them adequate dividends to to assist their in many situations occurring of living. The small international places with small populations would have the means to try this extra handy than say Iran or Iraq.in spite of if or no longer they have oil or no longer will have not any result on terrorists. It would not take allot of money to run that style of outfit.

It wouldn't make a bit of difference. The mess in the middle east has to do with religion, not oil.

The price of oil would drop greatly, and the Arab countries (or at least the rulers) wouldn't have enough money to continue their lifestyles. So they would probably kill each other to get the others oil, by having more oil they will make more money and perhaps get by.

The M. East countries will have to find a new way of getting their economy on the move. Religion will continue to be a problem.
By the way, the Patagonia will follow. In fact, it's under way, just a matter of time.

Then the Middle East would have some reprieve from your lies, wars and killings and they would mourn less. Unfortunately you will continue to need their oil.
