I know they're so peaceful, supposedly closely related to humans, but they just scare me, for a lot of reasons.

no kidding - looking at their sexual behaviour is pretty eye-opening!

Too closely related to us!

. Sex is frequent, uninhibited, and with multiple partners. They are also our most closely related ape. I am extremely jealous of the Bonobo. It sort of makes me wish we didn't branch away from them.

Sorry, I was drifting away.

yes, I find them disturbing. Their sexual practises are completely uninhibited, and include homosexual, oral, and several practises which are quite illegal in human society, such as with adolescents etc. It doesn't seem to trouble them in any way. That is what is disturbing, that they make practises - which we would label as taboo and morally repugnant - seem natural.

Many humans are uncomfortable around apes in particular and monkeys in general. It's like looking in a mirror without the inhibitions. I think it's a bit goofy but completely natural for folks to be uncomfortably reminded of themselves when they watch primate behaviour.

Not disturbing at all. Maybe we could take some lessons from them about reducing conflict, making peace, and soothing each other in times of stress. Better than what humans are doing all over the world -- killing each other and threatening to kill each other, couples who loved beating each up, etc. etc. ad nauseum.
