I'm not really sure what you mean--the Ipod is just a storage device, but Itunes on the computer is where you actually get the songs. For example, if I plug my Ipod into my friend's PC, she can't take songs from my Ipod. The Zune (Microsoft's new MP3 player) can share from Zune to Zune, but it is a temporary download.
