sometimes, it depends... if you're strict enough and can control your feeling, than it's ok, maybe you're the one to influence a pessimist to become more optimistic...
however, i don't want to take the risk... hanging out with a pessimist will only brings my mood down

I don't think it will affect your actual thinking, but it can suck the life out of you. It can also be exhausting to always be trying to point out to a pessimist why things may not be all that bad.
It can get to be a little dance you both you: He says how bad things are. You say why they aren't that bad. He works harder to point out that you're "naive" or "too stupid to realize how bad things are". You work harder to point out that you're right in your thinking and that you're neither naive nor stupid. It goes on and on.
Sometimes I think pessimists do it on purpose because they like having someone be like their mother and tell them how everything isn't as bad as they think it is.
If you hang out with a pessimist just agree that things are every bit as horrible as he thinks they are, but try to change the subject to one that doesn't leave room for the pessimism. Its the only way not to get sucked into the whole little dance, which, in the end, only leaves you feeling helpless in your inability to brighten the pessimist's day.

It is a life principal - you become who you associate with. If you have one pessimist and five optimists it's not so bad but spending the majority of your time with negative people will definitely drag you down.

Yes, I think it will, because whatever you do or say say will turn out to be negative, even if they are supposed to be positive.
Try mixing with optimistic pple, it'll make your life brighter !

i think so..negative energy is transferred onto others....then the negative person feels better for venting...but then those around them are drawn into that negative cloud...
