generally it means that you are down to the last 5% or so capacity of your fuel tank

so if it is a 1.5 litre my guess is it will have say a 40 litre tank that means you should have around 2 litres left my guess is no more than say 20km at the very best...

I hope you are with racq....grin

Look in you owners manuel how large is the "reserve" of your fuel tank. It is usually 5 liters but there is no fixed standard. You can work out what is the fuel consumption of your vehicle, how many kilometers you travel with 1 litre of petrol, or look in any car magazine what the average is for your specific vehicle.

My guess is that a 1,5L motor in normal city driving give approx. 12km/l times it by 5 litres give approx. 60km on the reserve. For safety I would say take it at 50km.

Just a caution - this is only if the low fuel tank light is flashing. If the petrol gauge itself is flashing I would call a friend to witness the event.

In most of the cars I have driven, there are at least 3 gallons (11 to 12 Litres) of fuel in the tank. I could go another 60 miles (96 km.)

You should be looking for a petrol station right away, and pull in before you go another 30 km. (The gas at the bottom of your tank can have more impurities.)

In most cars the light (regardless of engine size) it comes on first when you only have enough gas for a further 80 kilometres. If the warning light starts flashing I would guess you have reached the 10 or 20 kilometre mark.
