I think we should stick with Christmas. After all, CHRIST is the
reason for CHRISTMAS. If CHRIST is removed then we do not
have CHRISTMAS we only have "mas". I've never heard of a
celebration of "mas" day. Have you?

If you know anything at all about the Greek language, X means Christos which is where the title comes from that is in the New Testament. So interchanging them is not disrespectful in the least as they are the exact same thing and no one is "taking Christ out of Christmas". Those who believe it is come across as foolish and uneducated. Oddly enough, I was told all this by a well respected, very conservative Christian pastor who would be the last type of person one would expect to acknowledge or believe anything of the sort.
For what it's worth, Christmas has Pagan roots so non-believers have every right (and more) to celebrate it if they so choose. There is nothing original in Christmas that can't be found in other similar winter holidays such as Yule which is where it originated.

My humanities teacher told me it is from the roman alphabet. The X was either the first letter in Christ's name or somehow a symbol for him. Anyway, Christmas became X-mas, not to remove Christ, but to abbreviate it.
He was a sharp teacher and he knew a lot about ancient civilizations, but I never did double check his statement.

Because an x is just a hort cut to saying Christmas and other people would argue that people are trying to cut out hrist in Christmas.

Good Question. My insticts tell me it is because of the war on Christianity. But maybe it could be because people cant spell. Kind of like why Joan of Arc....or others sign their name with an X.

Non-believers want to celebrate a Christian holiday so their kids don't feel left out and take out Christ so it doesn't feel so Christian. BTW, people need to learn how to type...
