I need your help in deciding which model of telescope to get for a semi beginner.
1. Equatorial Mount, Meade Reflctor scope F=910 D=114 (Meade 114EQ-AST)
or
2: Azimuth Mount, Galileo catadioptric scope F=1100 D=102 (Galileo FS-102DX2)
I'm looking for the best general multi purpose use and those are my 2 options.
Thanks!

If I absolutely had to choose between the two, I'd get the Meade.

Here's why.

1. The meade has more aperture, at 114mm as opposed to 102mm. This isn't a huge difference but bigger is bigger and the corrector plate on the catadioptric Galileo probably has nothing to minimize light from being reflected off of it.

2. The Meade has an equatorial mount. Even though this particulay mount is basically a "Mickey Mouse" deal, and you can't do any appriciable astrophotography with it should you put motor drives on it, if you can put motor drives on it you will still be able to get some low magnification timed (but fairly short) exposures. In fact if you are presistant you might be fairly satisfied with what you get considering the equipment you are using.

In my absolute honest opinion, being you are a semi-beginner and seem to know enough to look around before buying, if I were you I'd save about $100 more and find a used Meade or Celestron 8" Schmidt Cassegrain. A lot of the old Orange tubes go for $400-$500 and are very versitile scopes with enough aperture to really see things and they make great astrophotography setups.

the two a type of telescopes are hopelessly inadequate for astronomical use. you would be lots extra useful off with an honest binocular. i do no longer understand what you mean by making use of "the different fringe of the hill." while you're in seek of a telescope which would be good for the two astronomical and terrestrial viewing, you will no longer be triumphant - by using fact the inherent objectives of each and every style of commentary are basically diverse. in spite of everything, those telescopes isn't good for the two application. they won't additionally be adverse. they are going to truly be extraordinarily adverse. i would not evaluate dropping any funds on those. in the activity of amateur astronomy, you frequently get what you pay for. the backside fee telescope it relatively is worth of the call expenses type of $330 (2 hundred kilos) here in the U.S. it particularly is an Orion 8 inch Dobsonian type, that for the duration of all probability has comparable availability on your area, besides the very incontrovertible fact that in step with probability at a a strategies better value. in case you attempt to purchase a extra low value scope, you will in simple terms come across frustration once you certainly attempt to apply it.

The Meade is better in two ways: first, it's slightly wider aperture; and second, the equatorial mount is much, much easier for tracking objects than the alt-az.
