When you refer to the "Richie-Rich" that reminds me of the Cartoon character. And I believe they prefer sons because they are only "barely educated, rarely cultured, and just literate, but not educated enough".
Fathers of daughters (especially in the eastern cultures) would recognize that daughters are actually more reliable, and caring for a life time. If daughters are well educated, and guided to be "Self-dependant" even if married, and self-confident enough to stand-up shoulder-to-shoulder to the men in the society (and that begins in the home/family), the "Richie-rich parents" would be sorry!!
[No offence meant to anybody, just personal point of view]

This was true all over the world, because of laws and customs, even mothers hoped for son and not a daughter, at one time family could loose all their wealth and end up in poor house except there were no poor houses. So on the street, and had no streets so.........

This is extremely deeply rooted in all cultures.

because culture tells that sons are better heirs than daughters. mostly girls are soft-heartened and in business you can't be that.
