In Windows under Device Manager, under SCSI and Raid controllers you will see the SCSI controller if one is installed.

SCSI drives are much more expensive than IDE drives. If you system is newer and cost less than $2K it probably only has IDE drives. If your system is or was server then it may have SCSI drives.

If you want to take it apart the machine to look inside, the IDE cables have either 40 or 80 wires in them. The SCSI cables can have any number of wires. Also the drives or devices themselves the cables are connected to may say whether they are IDE or SCSI devices.

if you are running windows you could also right click on 'my computer' then choose the 'hardware' tab, then click on 'device manager' If you see a section under your computer called 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' and you don't see any sections talking about SCSI, then you probably have an IDE drive.

IDE will have 40 pins while SCSI will have more pins...50 or 68 to be exact.

Do a Yahoo or Google image search. Compare the pictures to your hard drive and see which one looks comparable.

IDE drives have 40 pins... if your drive has more or less than that, then it's not IDE :)
