I hav 2 partitions: drive C & D, each having a disk space of 20 GB. I will b installing a new hard disk of 80 GB soon. My aim is to divide & distribute that 80 GB space equally to my exisiting partitions(C & D) so that the new total space of the 2 drives becomes 60 GB each. I dont want to create any extra drive E or whatever. How do i do that ? I know that i will hav to do this from Disk Management in windows Xp but i dont know the exact procedure. Can any1 help me with this ?

You could make the disks dynamic disks, but then you'll have to set up software RAID and all of that.....

Also, it is really pointless to join two separate partitions on two drives- you might as well copy all of your 40 gig hdd to the 80 gig, then reformat the 40 to make one partition, and re-copy all of the data. Unless you really need two 60 gig drives, I would not recommend you going for the RAID method.

Create a dynamic volume which you can extend. Use the Dynamic Volume Management feature in Windows XP to do this.

Doing that will require you to set up an unnecessarily complicated array that your computer likely isn't even capable of doing. Just add in the new 80GB and create the E:\ drive, it will cause fewer headaches.

I would ghost the files from your first drive onto your new one, and have that as drive C. Then use your 40 gig one as a drive D

once you mentioned you formatted, it potential you have deleted all your archives from C: and then put in a sparkling OS on Ccontinual. until you subsidized up your archives on an externalcontinual previously doing this operation, there is not any way you may get lower back the techniques you had initially.
