Is it true that you can bang it with a hammer repeatedly to destroy any magnetism?

lol, no. The only way to get rid of magnetism is with time. You can damage the magnet to weaken the electro-magnetic field, but it won't destroy it. Depending on what the magnet is made out of (the materials involved) you can demagnetize it to a degree, also it depends on how you handle it. You could try heating it or exposing it to another magnetic field, this should hurry up the process of the demagnetization.

Some materials (hard steel, in particular) can be partially demagnetized by a sharp impact. (This used to be part of a high-school physics experiment.) However, speaker magnets are made from much stronger magnets and are generally much more brittle than hard steel, so they will break before the mechanical impact can affect the magnetism.

banging it with a hammer will only break apart the magnet into many smaller magnets. ceramic magnets can lose their strength over time, however neodimium magnets (the kind used in good speakers) will keep their strength, at the very least, longer than you could ever hope to live.
