I would second the island of Bohol, it has wonderful attractions, and is removed from the pushier tourist destinations such as Boracay.
The chocolate hills are a surreal sight. A vast area in the centre of the island is populated by perfectly even, round hills, covered in rough greenery (brown in the Autumn and evening light). There is a visitors centre and (frankly average) hotel on one of the hills: it is, however, worth staying, as the sunset and sunrise over this place is nothing short of breathtaking.
Tagbilaran, the island's capital, is a smoggy, industrial port, but a short taxi or bus ride takes you to sleepy Panglao Island. One of the main 'resorts' here is Alona Beach, with a huge range of accommodation, from hut to upscale villa. There are boat trips, diving, excellent bars and restaurants, even massages on the beach to be had here.
The area between the Chocolate Hills and the southern coast is dominated by the Loboc River, and surrounded by rainforest. There are some good accommodations along here (including the eccentric, Belgian-run Nuts Huts) where you can stay by the river. It is possible to see the oldest church in the country here, and view the endangered, native tarsier (a minute, monkey-like creature with giant eyes) in its natural surroundings. It's easy to charter a boat up and down the river, to view the tarsiers, and the masses of fireflies, as they light up the trees flanking the river in the evening.
It was an absolutely magical place, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
If you have time, I would also recomment visiting Mount Taal, not far from Manila. You can stay on the shores of the lake surrounding this volcano, then hire a traditional boat over, and climb up to the ridge for a spectacular view of the flooded, sunk caldera crater in the middle, while steam shoots out around your feet.

Philippines is such a fun place to visit. If you like nature, sun, sky, and seas, you can find them anywhere in the Philippines as long as you are away from the city.

I'm sort of partial to Tagaytay City where I live about 60 km south of Manila. it's on top of mountain, overlooks the Taal lake and volcano.

But~~~if you're not sure, take a tour like I did back in the '90s. Got to visit Manila, Tagaytay City, The volcano island (pony ride to the crater), and Pagsanjan falls with a boat ride through the rapids.

Boracay is nice but a typical tourist attraction. If you really want to see awesome beaches and sites try Puerto Galera in Mindoro. To get there you have to go through Batangas which have some awesome beaches as well. it's about 2hr drive from Manila then another 1-2hr ferry ride from Batangas to Puerto Galera. If you dive they have the best diving spots. Their waterfalls and rainforest are the best in my opinion. You can get in a 4star resort for a lot less than in Boracay.
Hth, good luck and have fun!

Bohol Island and the chocolate hills. Panglao Island (connected by road to Bohol) is as good as Boracay in my opinion.
The rice terraces of Binaue on Luzon, the main island, are also worth a visit. They are not easy to get to (coach and negotiating local transport) but the journey is well worth while.
