if you want something that is easy to look after- a rat, gross as it may sound, i thought they were really gross but now i have 2 girls, they are incredibly easy to train, i let mine out of their cage and they run around the lounge room and come when they are called, they are also toilet trained so they wont do their business until they get back to their cage. They also have a designated spot in their cage to do their business. Rats unlike mice do not smell, i hardly ever clean out their cage, but they dont smell, they are incredibly clean animals.
I would suggest getting a girl cos the male's balls just creep me out, 2 is best cos then they play with each other and its really cute when they cuddle. Plus they are CHEAP as to look after- just some dried oats, bird seen random fruit and veges and a salt lick and they are pretty happy:)

well there are many choices out there, these are my 2 choices based on experience.
1. would be a goldfish they are nice to have , easy to take care of.
don't get form a carnival.
Or do you want a pet you can hold and cuddle with?
2. a puppy would work there are many that are free, check the newspapers, and animal shelters,
since you have to wait after Christmas check out books form the library on the animals you like so can learn what pet wolud be the best for you.
Good Luck.

ok firstly check out your local SPCA or animal shelter FIRST - even before going to the shops - their prices will be better and their information will be more honest (pet stores will tell you anything to get a sale) sometimes they even have lower priced cages (used) for same
I would suggest a RABBIT or GUINEA PIG ...Guinea Pigs have to have special food with Vitamin C added but are much easier than Chinchillas...they talk to you and make different sounds depending on their moods...
Hamsters are noctural so are NOT a good choice...
Birds are VERY messy and the bigger ones require A LOT of attention
Get as BIG of a cage as you can and make sure your pet gets out ALOT.. if you cannot invest ALOT of time taking it out then dont get a pet of this type.. their lives in tiny cages are B O R I N G... in the summer you can get rabbit harness and follow them outside as they hop around...
main thing - check your shelters FIRST.. you might even go 3 or 4 times before finding the right pet or put your name on waiting list
cat or dog is too much work and too long of a commitment for a person living with their parents

Good old boring cat or dog. They are the most popular pets because they are smartest and most compatible living with people. Well maybe monkeys are smarter, but they are hard to live with! If you want a pet that craves lots of attention and is trainable, get a puppy. If you wand a pet that is independent yet affectionate and playful, get a kitten.
Either way, do lots of reading up on how to socialize and care for your new pet before you get it. How much you enjoy your pet will depend a great deal on how well you socialize and train it, especially in the beginning.

A rat is surprisingly a lot like a little dog and is very easy to take care of, yet a lot more personable and friendly than a hamster. They are very smart and cuddly and actually look forward to seeing you, They aren't asleep all day like a hamster, will wake up to say hi :) Cheap, easy to take care of. Con: lifespan of around 2 years :( Many get sick before that...

Ferrets are well pets. I have 2. The scent quite isnt that dangerous. They're hilarious little creatures. They cuddle too (: Cats are well, so are puppies. If you wish whatever quite small, I'd advocate a rat. They're plenty friendlier than hamsters. Make definite you do your study earlier than getting any style of animal.

get a fish!!! most people avoid them b/c they think
1) they don't do anything
2) they have a memory of 3 seconds
all of these above are NOT TRUE. if you observe your fish, you may find that it has pretty intresting behavior!! fish also do NOT have a 3 second memory span(even goldfish). for more information on fish intelligence go to www.fishinghurts.com. there are thousands of fish species to choose from and many require really basic care. avoid goldfish though, their body sheds more mucus so u have to clean the tank more often.
here are some of my fav fish:) ~
zebra danio-easy to care for, small, and really active
species of corydora- these cute little catfish seem to wink at you:)
guppies-extremely hardy, though they sometimes overbreed
bettas-peaceful with other species of fish and very pretty
my all-time fav fish is definatly the senegal bichir, even though it grows to a very large size, they grow slowly, can live off of pellets(even though some ppl like to feed it live fish),have big personalities, and look like some sort of prehistoric.....thing! a word of warning tho..don't keep it with any small fish!

rabbits are really good pets. not to hard to take care of and if you look for the right one it can be the best pet you ever had.my rabbit i've had for 3 years , i looked for her for 1 year before i found her, but it wa worth it , its amazing i never thought that much about how much of a personality a rabbit can have until i got mine. we let her run around the house when we are home, she is litter box trained and if you're in her way she'll let you know! seriously shell make noise if shes mad! think about a rabbit, if you find the right one....you'll have the best pet ever! if you dont end up getting a rabbit just make shure u find the right personality in whatever animal you get! good luck!!!

get a rabbit! there EXTREMELY cute and cuddly, fairly cheap, and easy to take care of. you only have to feed them twice a day, and claen them out every 3 days or so. rabbit food is alot cheaper than something like a dog or cat. you can always get them at pet shops or stores so just pick the nearer one! i got my one from a garden centre pet shop!!!!!!!!
good luck, take care!
