Well the manager knows me as Mark when my name is Ash I can see allsort of awkard sitiations of people calling me Mark and me getting to nervous to correct them or something. I'm entitled to my name, whats a polite way of correcting them?

Simply say, "I go by Ash." Do it from the beginning 'cause if you don't it'll be hard to break some people's habits of calling you Mark. I know, I've been there. It's uncomfortable when everyone is calling you something you don't go by.~

Say something like, "Actually, my name is, 'Ash'. Somehow word got out that my name is Mark - but it isn't." Use a polite, light, tone with a hint of humor.

Wanted to mention to you today that my name is Ash, not Mark. (Smile) I know you call me Mark, sometimes people do...but I go by the name of Ash...so I wanted to let you know! (Smile).

Oh, no problem-- Mark's a nice name too. (Smile, chuckle)

When he introduces you to someone, say, My name is Ash (last name).

When people called me Kathy, I'd say, "Actually, it's Katherine. But, after you know me three months, if you still want to call me Kathy, then you can." After three months, they'd correct other people who tried calling me Kathy and say, "You're right, you're a Katherine."
