my mitsubishi lancer keeps burning oil and i don't know why, i have to fill it with oil every week. It's not leaking because i looked for a leak and it is clean. Every now and then it starts to smoke, i'm thinking it is going into the exhaust but not sure, can someone help please.

it's an 02 and it has 120,000 my mom had it before but when she gave it to me, i changed the spark plugs, wires, pcv valve belts and change the coolant. I give it an oil change every 3,000 miles but when they change it, they tell it is not even that old because i have to keep putting fresh oil!

I think it has just been used a lot.

Sounds to me like your rings are worn and the bores are scored badly, so I'm afraid it needs an engine rebuild. After additional details I still maintain my initial answer.

What year and how many miles? How many miles do you drive it in a week? Do you change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles? It could just be worn out.

Have you ever checked the PCV valve? If it's clogged, pressure builds up in the block and can cause oil to be pushed into the cylinders.

If the smoke has a blueish colour your car is burning oil.

Should this be the case it will require the valve stem oil seals replacing.

This is quite a big and expensive job as it means the engine will need to be stripped down.

you gotta perform overhauling on the motor. could be a number of things, piston rings , liners, [piston(not that frequent)]

go get estimation cost on the overhauling from the workshop.

could be turbo. some turbo cars do smoke some when shift/ reliving preassure. a small amount is normal but if it is extreme then try a compression test.
