I've recently become a fan of the Star Wars films. I always liked them but not like this. I was wondering why Lucas did it the way he did and if anyone knows the chances of more films in the near future.

Serious answers only, please.

Lucas made the prequels last because in the late 70's/early 80's, movie technology wasn't up to par with what he needed to create his stories properly in his opinion. The old films are still ten times better than the new one. There most likely won't be any more movies, but supposedly a new TV series is in the works. There are also a ton of books that take place before, during, and after all of the films.

Originally, A New Hope was the only Star Wars film. That is why in the first film, the Death Star is apparently destroyed and it all seems to be resolved. It only changed when it became so popular that Lucas wrote the two sequels and then the prequels.

And according to Lucas, there will be no more films however there are dozens of books that have been endorsed by Lucas and all are intertwined and leave a wide berth for a sequel but it is highly unlikely.

George Lucas is a moron. I really loved the original films (Star Wars, Empire strikes back, Return of the jedi and ), however I feel it is all about the MONEY. Take a look around you and you will see that our world we live in is corrupted by money and power. I guess 'ol Lucas needed a gold hot tub to go with his gold pool. Or his Bently got old and he needed a new one. *Note to Lucas if he ever read this post, you sir are an idiot. You ruined a perfect classic movie with the new garbage. May the force never be with you!*

My dad likes these movies too, He told me that george lucas made the movies like that because george had the story in his head but that the technology was not advanced enough to create the things he envisioned so he started backwards, I still do not understand this explination but that was the only one I've ever heard. From what I have heard there is only going to be six movies, but then again money speaks and there might be more.

There is a lot to this so bear with me.

His first idea got stiffed by the Hollywood executives. It included all the stuff we saw in Episode III.

The whole idea for Star Wars really started when Lucas was denied the rights to Produce Flash Gordon. So he created his own intergalactic adventure film.

Dude, I seriously doubt he knew he was going to make pre-quels to Star Wars back in the '70s. Thats just become the latest thing in Hollywood, pre-quels to show how everything came about because so many people had questions about how it all came to be. No, I don't think he's making anymore Star Wars. But he is making Indiana Jones again!

As has been said, he originally made it as a stand-alone and only made sequels after it was a big success. Apparently, he decided that the storyline needed to be completed with prequels, so later made Episodes I, II, and III.
