You should make it a point to put some beautiful, CRAZY color on your FINGERNAILS, just to try it, if only once. Who knows, you might feel so FUN, and you never know how much time you have left on this earth. :)

The color has to be a nice color next to your skin, no matter how nice it looks in the bottle. So keep that in mind first and foremost.
Second, use a great basecoat and a great topcoat. That will prevent you from having surprise and unsightly chipping.
Nothing is worse than someone trying to pull off a fantastic new color, for example, the black satiny colors and the blackenned red and espresso brown colors, when their polish is not glossy enough and has unsightly chipping or tip wear/scuffs.
I recommend a great base coat and a quick drying glossy topcoat. Sally Beauty Supply has 2 I like, Seche Base and Seche Vite.
Really using a smart way to select a color and using smart methods to preserve the artistic value of painting your nails, you will find that you will receive very positive feedback on doing a bold color, even a purple or a dark green can look very chic.
PS it doesn't hurt to look really smartly dressed elsewhere and carry a chic bag and a nice style of shoes... even if they're Walmart or Target brand, you can still seem like your nail polish is an accent to you not a crazy one-time thing you've done.

I don't think that light colors look good on my fingernails. I think darker colors look good on me like dark purple or deep red. As long as you keep them at a reasonable length, there is nothing wrong with it.

Not at all, except I guess I don't want it said "I can't keep nail polish on for more than half and hour without chipping it!" which would be the truth.

The bolder the better. It's a way of expressing yourself, and who cares what anybody else thinks? They're your nails and as long as you keep them a reasonable length, go for it.

i paint my nails any color i want. i currently have short nails with lincoln park after dark on them. espresso your style is great too!
i get compliments with lincoln park after dark all the time. its a dark, dark berry that looks almost black.
as long as they are short, i think you can get away with any color you want.
