Well, according to the description you gave, it could be a female Golden Crowned Kinglet, or possibly a Grace's Warbler, but you didn't give a description of the rest of the bird, so it's difficult for me to say positively. I used the "Peterson Field Guide" of Western Birds, and since you seem to have an interest in such things, I would like to suggest maybe you pick one up yourself, and start listing all the cool birds you see.

Hi - wow! I rescued a little guy today and had him by my desk in a box for a few hours before he felt well enough to leave. Is this a tiny, tiny bird (around 5 inches long) and kind of round like a ball with a yellow top of the head and black stripes on either side? I am searching like crazy myself to find out what it is. Please let me know if we're talking about the same bird (I'm in Victoria).
